Sondheim's Magnificent Modern Fairy Tale
The students of the Dr. Phillips Center Florida Hospital School of the Arts' Music Theater Production summer program proudly present a rollicking revival of the Stephen Sondheim modern classic Into The Woods. Over the course of four professional performances, the talented young ensemble will conjure the wistful magic of the Brothers Grimm as well as the sonic heights of Sondheim's timeless score, weaving together the stories of well-known children's stories to tell a new kind of fairy tale.
A childless couple whose desire to start a family drives the plot, the baker and his wife are positioned right at the center of the story. When a witch reveals their infertility is due to a curse she placed on the family due to the crimes of the baker's father, the pair undertake a thrilling quest to lift the curse, meeting a host of familiar characters including Cinderella, Jack, Little Red Riding Hood and Rapunzel.
