Arsenic and Old Lace

Why see Arsenic and Old Lace?

Join Cocoa Village Playhouse for Frank Capra's black comedy, as part of their beloved "Broadway on Brevard" season!

The Classic Black Comedy

Film-maker Frank Capra may be best-known for his celebrated holiday movie "It's A Wonderful Life", but he also explored the realms of black comedy. Arsenic and Old Lace is a perennial favorite on the comedy play repertoire and was originally written for the stage before Capra adapted it to film. Follow one madcap and seemingly innocent family as they engage in a particularly sordid hobby - murder!

What is the story?

When Mortimer arrives back home with his lovely new fiancee, he discovers that his elderly relatives have taken up a rather disturbing pastime in their twilight years. Whilst trying to negotiate his way through the madness, he must keep his beloved completely in the dark about the goings-on, without getting the police involved! His seemingly kind old spinster aunts lure lonely old men to their house under false pretenses, only to poison them and bury them in the basement with the help of their two other nephews. Unfortunately, one of them believes he is President Teddy Roosevelt and another who has escaped prison and remarkably resembles horror movie star Boris Karloff! Let the games begin!
